Arms Sales: USA vs Russia
Visualizing U.S. and Russian arms transfers from 1950 through 2017
About
The U.S. and Russia (formerly U.S.S.R.) are the world's largest weapons dealers. In order to provide historical and geographic context to the global arms trade, I visualized the flows of arms exports leaving the U.S. and Russia from 1950 through 2017. The underlying data is collected and published in the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute's Arms Transfers Database. Thank you to SIPRI for making this data publically available.
Units are expressed in trend indicator values (TIV). There is more information availale about TIV here. Each dot on the map = one TIV.
